I will never forget
By Darryl Weng
In this decade, it seems as though Americans are increasingly softening up their stance on communism. Many Americans, once fearful of communism, now embrace socialism and invite the policies of the radical Left right into their lives. The media has normalized the radical Left to the extent that a socialist political mindset seems to be the norm. Censorship is abused at nearly every corner of this nation, and political correctness shuts the mouths of the free. The similarities of a communist state and those of the political state of America are alarming.
The values of equality, fairness, and respect have been stretched and contorted by politicians to fit their dreams of Utopia - only to invite the horrors of communism to the borders and culture of America.
Have Americans forgotten why migrants have fled to the U.S from communist rule? Has not Cuba, USSR, China, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Poland reminded Americans of the dangers communism poses?
But I will never forget. As a Chinese-American, I will never forget what the Communist Chinese Party(CCP) did to my family and ancestors. Beyond the pain and suffering the CCP did to my parents who fled China to seek a better life for themselves and me, the CCP erased my family history. What remains of my family's past and ancestry only relives in story and my fragile memory. I will never see the Parisian architecture that my great-grandfather once lived in Shanghai or ever know if my ancestors took part in the founding of the famous White Rabbit candies. I only recall the brown, rustic stair handles that led to the tiny cell my grandfather lived in, and the green, shriveled chair my grandfather would use to pass time with his pack of cigars.
There is no good in communism - absolutely nothing. My Vietnamese friend was born in the rice fields in communist Vietnam, fleeing on a boat to America to escape starvation. I had an elementary school teacher who slept endless nights on a bull’s back across the rice fields in China. I heard of fine men and women in China sent to the countryside for “cleansing.”
It doesn’t take one to be under communist rule to understand how cruel such a political system can be. So, I beg of Americans to open their eyes and be watchful of where their political aspirations lead to.
