Politicization of patriotism is dangerous
By Darryl Weng
It’s quite possible that Biden, himself, admires Trump’s handling of foreign countries. Apparently, Biden thinks himself capable of pasting Trump’s foreign policy into an already weak administration.
One of Biden’s notable decisions as president was to keep tariffs on China like Trump, but tariffs are of no use if there are no ulterior motives. Sadly, his connection to the Chinese Communist Party(CCP) or weakness to confront the CCP may have caused him to fall back on dealing with China. Besides allowing a dangerous military and political danger like China to encroach upon nearby democratic nations, Biden has made quite a few decisions that have cost Americans to be sacrificed for absolutely nothing. A prime example is when Biden flew a few thousand American troops from Afghanistan back into the U.S, a similar effort made by Trump. However, the differences were clear. While Trump did decrease the amount of American troops in Afghanistan, the enemy forces did not respond militarily due to the fear of Trump making a decision to signal air strikes on perpetrators “on a whim.”
It is the unruly, unpredictable nature of Trump that strikes fear into his enemies, unlike that of Biden. Biden’s retrieval of American troops in Afghanistan resulted in immediate revival of the Taliban and killings of American troops, personnel, and buildings. The idea that Biden could replicate Trump’s success simply through copy & pasting policies from the Trump era was foolish. The efforts led by Americans after the fatal 9/11 attack have now gone to waste as the Taliban, once destroyed through years of American commitment in the Middle East, now grow stronger to take the lives of many American soldiers.
What the progressives never understood is that there will never be another Trump. Selfish and uncaring for the American cause, progressives thought only of glory when amounting such efforts into dismantling the Trump Administration. The excuse progressives have seems to be that they believe Trump is replaceable and that a progressive candidate could easily step in Trump’s shoes. Despite Trump’s faulty rhetoric, his actions have led him to be seen as a true American patriot and a stickler for American nationalism and ideals. It’s important that we regard American heroes as those whose actions have aided America greatly. An American hero should never be regarded as political. Trump stands as an American hero for many and should not be slandered through political means. The same goes for past presidents like FDR, JFK, and Reagan. Such presidents are rarely identified by their party because of their contributions to the success in America today. From FDR’s outstanding handling of World War II to Reagan’s contributions to the U.S economy and efforts in destabilizing the Soviet Union, there is little room for history textbooks to highlight where each president resides in the political spectrum.
The political labeling of Trump has resulted in serious damage to both American culture and the idea of patriotism. The high politicization of important matters is hindering America’s ability to function as a world power respected by all nations.
