How the radical right is ruining us
By Darryl Weng
Democrat politicians who have supported moderate political agendas are now losing their seats to increasingly radical and young members of the party. The rise of the Democratic Party’s radical faction is leading many Americans to fall more favorably towards the Republican Party. But America’s far right seems to disprove this with its recent actions.
In an effort to disagree with nearly every mainstream media portrayal of incidents and people, extreme Republicans have ditched common sense for the chance to criticize the media - even when the media praises President Zelensky of Ukraine as an international hero.
Weeks ago, conservative commentator Candace Owens posted this on her twitter:
“President Zelensky is a very bad character who is working with globalists against the interests of his own people. I will not move one inch away from that assessment—ever—no matter how flowery the media depictions of him are.”
Owens has zero reservations in criticizing Zelensky, a man who is praised by nearly every western leader and is an icon among both Ukrainians and Americans. She has not even provided any evidence to validate her assessment. Given that Owens has an extensive history of making up conspiracy theories, it’s no surprise to the rest of us that she continues to put a dent into her credibility by making dangerous assumptions.
Candace Owens had made headlines for supporting black conservatism and criticizing structural racism and identity politics, garnering much support and applause among conservatives. However, her history of conspiracy theories and brazen language have invited widespread criticism from the left. With her reputation stained, it is nearly impossible for Americans to take Owens’ positions and respectable commentary on race in America seriously.
Not only has Owens ruined her own career and popularity, but her status as a prominent conservative commentator has contributed to ruining the status of conservatism in the United States, which, in turn, negatively affects the Republican Party’s popularity.
Extreme Republicans and conservatives like Owens threaten the popularity, stability, and reputation of the GOP. While Democrats also have their radicals, those on the far right do not find shelter under movements like Black Lives Matter(BLM), LGBTQ+, and #MeToo. Many celebrities are supportive of BLM and, as a result, have little critique for the far left. Rising stars of the far left like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are embraced by media outlets and are, at times, popularized by celebrity culture. Meanwhile, those on the far right are isolated and express views completely out of line with the common American. They are shunned by the media more than ever, and no conservative would ever dare to come to their defense. Even Fox News, who frequently invites guests of the far right, doesn’t even dare defend the radical right.
But the radical right continues its hostile language and false theories. Radicals will always lie on both sides of parties, but the direction the far right is heading will completely prevent true conservative values from spreading to the most progressive areas of America. With the current censorship and damage already done to conservative values by the Left, the Republican Party must fight to prevent further damage to its appeal to Americans by subduing its radical faction. The GOP has fought maliciously to expose the hideous acts of the radical left, but it must turn its focus to its own group of radicals.
