Therapeutic as ever

By Darryl Weng

Progressives propose solutions so radical that it takes newspapers to thoroughly explain common sense to prove the inadequacy of the minds of such progressives. Today’s progressives supposedly slam elites, lead the minority, and punish all adversaries. And, yet, I’ve never quite understood the relationships between the elites and the progressives. How could progressives, so openly critical of elites, be funded, supported, and adored by so many elites? The elites always seem to be the progressives’ scapegoats. Income gap? Blame the elites. Racism in the workplace? Blame elitist culture. Hate the rich? Well, Blame the elites.

Sadly, when times in America allow a society to become therapeutic, Americans often forget reality and common sense. They chase dreams, imaginations, and ideals that are only met with restrictions that reality has placed upon them. It was never the progressives’ fault. Instead it was those who voted and funded them. Progressives are only a symbol that represents the groups of Americans who wish to chase the ideals of equality and seek the image of a charitable & productive member of the community - only to be thrown aside by time and reality. Although Americans today are comparatively more therapeutic towards American values and ideals than those in the last century, many Americans in the lower echelons of society that are productive members of the capitalist society have become angered towards progressives, especially. And, yet, with all the anger mounted against them, progressives remain untouched, growing stronger by the day.

The only plausible explanation for the strong revival of progressives is that the elite class of Americans is indulging in their efforts to support progressives. No other social class of Americans has remained so therapeutic as the elite class. The elites have always desired to be seen as respectable, regal, and righteous members of society. And, so, they have given money to support politicians who have the mental capacity to become the elites’ desired image.

But what makes today’s therapeutic elites so distasteful? Quite simply put, therapeutic elites desire a pleasant image that hides the true influence, power, and advantages they hold within our society. It is not the influence, power, and advantages the elites have that makes them so distasteful, but, rather, the idea that the elites solidify through their actions to cover up their “elitist” privileges. Influence itself is applaudable and desired among many, but influence forcibly disguised through a charitable image is simply distasteful.

The elites have made themselves free of hate for the time being. However, they will be livestock for criticism from the working man in the near future. It’s time for elites to quit the therapeutic facade and use influence for the common good - a chance for American elites to brand themselves better than those across the world. We can only hope for our elites to change, especially when we realize that the elite class exists in all forms of societies and hierarchies. Let the elites adapt to our anger and punish the progressives for betting America’s future on false ideals and unrealistic imaginations.
