Are conservatives just as bad as progressives today?

By Darryl Weng

COVID’s timing couldn’t have been worse. Just as America faced its own political plight, COVID took America’s matters into further disorder. Income gap widened, crime ensued, and, most of all, politics took the most extreme turn. While most of the blame lies in the very left of the political spectrum due to progressives’ forced radical reforms, many politicians of the GOP have nearly contributed just as much.

It is widely known that Biden proposed a vaccine mandate. It’s as if the U.S federal government wants everybody to be ordered around for vaccines. It also seems like certain state governments under conservative politicians find ordering citizens around is amusing. The no-vaccine mandates by the state governments of Texas and Florida seem to counter Biden’s mandate, but no-vaccine mandates only serve as a short-term political stunt against the president. Governments not respecting free choice sound much like progressive-run governments. However, today’s conservatives are following suit. If political victories are desired more than the wellbeing of citizens, then those who support mandates for vaccines or no vaccines might as well be political commentators - a job that won’t lead to carelessly affecting hundreds of thousands of citizens negatively. Freedom might as well not be an American ideal anymore if such political stunts by conservatives continue.

Other failures by our conservatives include faulty political rhetoric. Just recently, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene(R, Ga.) was suspended from Twitter for “violating” Twitter’s COVID misinformation policy. Although it was uncouth and foolish of Twitter to suspend Rep. Greene’s account, Greene’s rhetoric on COVID has led to many in the GOP and Democratic party to condemn her behavior. The major reason is that her rhetoric is extreme and uses comparisons that are completely nonfactual, leaving politicians and Americans wary of supporting her, in belief that Greene is extreme and belongs to the very right of the political spectrum. Political rhetoric has been commonly misused by conservatives due to the immediate popularized negative branding by the progressives. In other words, anything nonfactual or any comparisons conservatives tweet or comment could be easily used against them. This, of course, has been one of the key factors to Trump’s political downfall, especially when politically influential lawyers like Sidney Powell and L. Lin Wood have hurled themselves into the trap of using nonfactual comments to gain support for a dying cause. During these times of censorship and dominance progressives have in wealth and influence, conservatives must be wary of their comments to keep themselves connected closely to the many supporters who lack a voice when rioters and anti-patriots roam unscathed.

Even with all the might progressives hold with their social media dominance and influence among the countless ignorant, the cause conservatives and Trump have left behind only grows in anger as Biden’s presidency proves how ineffective and concerning a modern day progressive presidency operates. A new year has begun. 2021 started on a sour note and ended on a fine note, an indication that, perhaps, 2022 may end in a superior outcome. A red wave is certainly desired, especially by the American people whose voices are only heard through conservatives that share the same goals for America - unlike progressives who spend their supporters’ fundraising for impulsive, radical reforms.
